About ICOM Nepal

ICOM Nepal, the national committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), is a non-profit organization established in August 2016 and registered under the Office of the Company Registrar of Nepal. Affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, ICOM Nepal serves as a membership-based association uniting museum professionals across the country. Our mission is to preserve, research, and promote Nepal's rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage, acting as a vital support and expert agency for the government and stakeholders. Guided by ICOM's global standards and code of ethics, we foster dialogue, capacity building, and advocacy to strengthen the museum sector in Nepal.

Since its inception, ICOM Nepal has been a pioneer in heritage preservation, spearheading initiatives like the ICOM Paris Supported Special Project (2019-2020), which focused on regional museum development in line with the ICOM/UNESCO Kathmandu Recommendation. This project facilitated international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of sustainable museum legislation. Our work extends to partnerships with national and global entities, enhancing museum advocacy, education, and research. With over 500 members actively participating in forums and elections, ICOM Nepal continues to drive cultural exchange and community engagement, hosting events such as the Annual General Meeting and specialized workshops on heritage conservation.

Our achievements include facilitating over 20 global collaborations since 2023, contributing to the digitization of cultural artifacts, and supporting local museums in Kathmandu, Patan, and beyond. ICOM Nepal's board, composed of dedicated leaders, ensures strategic direction and sustainable growth, aligning with our vision to be a global leader in museum practices. We invite museum professionals, enthusiasts, and communities to join us in safeguarding Nepal's cultural legacy for future generations.
